So T.O. is a better athlete than say Jerry Rice cause he is more physically gifted?
better athlete?
i would say TO is the better athlete
How can u say he is the better athlete when jerry rice is the greatest receiver of all time? Doesn't that make him a better athlete?
greatest WR based on what?
stats
But wouldnt the better athlete have the best stats by ur reasoning?

not at all
if you go back an re-read what i said......ive said that often times there are great players who arent the best athletes and great athletes who arent great players
Yea but if someone is the best athlete then they should have to best stats. If someone is the strongest, fastest, and smartest player they would find ways to beat everyone and would then have the best stats.
oy vey
you are also just obtuse and clearly wont get it either
im a huge niners fan, but i can admit that athleticlly (sp?) TO is more impressive than jerry rice
now hands, and the mental aspects? jerry pwns
and jerry IS the greatest WR ever
no contest
Well from bwc's point then to wouldnt be a better athlete since rice was smarter than him.
but i dont think strength should be pre requisite to being a great athlete
and im not saying KG isnt strong, but hes not overly strong, like OL strong.
but i think strength truly has little to do with being a better athlete than someone.
the strength thing is all relative much like speed etc
you can have an OL that is a physically athletic freak.......but obviously not compare to a RB or WR
ok, we are on the same page now
i agree wit that
i dont know bout upton being the best athlete, reyes is pretty crazy, hanley ramirez too
as for stats......you could be the most physically gifted WR ever to play the game.......but if you have the most miserable qb ever......are your stats really going to be that impressive?
does that mean you arent a great athlete?
not in my eyes
but overtly excessive success, like rice's, that transcended generations, albeit from two high class QBs, if you look at what he did on the field, he puts himself in a different class.
its all competition, the best WRs beat every corner in the league. if you had to beat 30 great DBs instead of 8 great DBs a year, ie don hudson, lance alworth, etc....
it evens itself out in my eyes
does that make sense?
damn its late
put rice on the packers or colts of the mid 80s
is he still good? absolutely.......does he retire with every record imaginable?
very doubtful
thats jus somethin that you cant really count on, cause you never really know what would have happened.
success makes you the greatest, if not how else? i can see extra ordinary circumstances, but even players like bo jackson, they were at the elite level before the injury, etc...
is he the greatest ever? no, probably not.
he the best athlete to play the position? probably
if bo didnt get hurt, would he be the greatest?
the world will never know

bo was the exception only because before he got hurt he was on a path to be the best in both baseball and football at his position.......such a feat could truly have crowned him the great athlete ever

I was alive during Reggie's heroics and it was something to watch but I will say this. I love baseball - but baseball just isn't baseball anymore.
